# Telegram setup


## Connect Telegram

1. **Dashboard → Channels → Telegram → Connect.**
2. Tap "Open @NiyraAIbot" — opens Telegram.
3. Click "Start" in the bot chat. Your account is linked.
4. Send "hi" — first reply usually under 2 seconds.

## What works on Telegram

- **DMs.** Standard chat. Markdown, threads, replies all clean.
- **Voice notes.** Send a Telegram voice note. Niyra transcribes and replies in text (or voice if you say "reply with voice").
- **Photos & media.** Same OCR / extraction as web. Receipts, RC cards, screenshots — Niyra processes them all.
- **PDFs and files.** Forward any document. She'll summarize or extract.
- **Slash commands**: `/ask`, `/brief`, `/remind`, `/search`.

## Groups

You can add Niyra to a group. She **only** replies when @mentioned. She doesn't read other messages.

To add: open the bot, tap the menu (⋮) → "Add to group" → select group → approve permissions.

## Switching off

Settings → Channels → Telegram → Disconnect. Niyra stops responding immediately.

## Troubleshooting

- **No reply** — Check the bot is unblocked in Telegram. Sometimes Telegram silently blocks bots after long inactivity.
- **Voice transcription wrong** — Niyra uses Deepgram + Sarvam for Indian English / Hindi. For other languages, accuracy varies. Try sending text.
- **Files not processed** — Files over 20MB don't go through Telegram's bot API. Use Niyra on web for large files.
